If you are interested in becoming involved with public art in Virginia Beach, please consider applying to serve on the Public Art Committee or on a future public art review panel. If there are no current openings, all forms will be kept on file and reviewed when an opportunity becomes available. Applicants should live in Virginia Beach and must have comprehensive experience and/or knowledge of the visual arts.

The Virginia Beach Public Art Committee (PAC) is comprised of 11 volunteer members who are appointed by the Virginia Beach Arts and Humanities Commission. This committee plays an important role in the development and implementation of the Virginia Beach Public Art Program.

Priorities of the Public Art Committee include:

  • Review and recommend changes to public art policies and procedures, and/or Administrative Directives pertaining to public art to the Cultural Affairs Department.
  • Review the Cultural Affairs Department's annual public art plan. The plan, which is developed by staff, includes the identification and prioritization of projects to be implemented.
  • A representative from the Public Art Committee will serve on artist review panels to make recommendations on artist selection and artist concepts to the Public Art Committee and the Arts and Humanities Commission.

Committee members shall serve terms of three years with a maximum of two consecutive terms.

The purpose of Public Art Review Panels is to review, analyze, and consider the quality and impact of public art proposals with respect to specific projects and their respective goals and future impact. Public Art Review Panels generally consist of community members, City staff, and other stakeholder representatives.

Public Art Review Panel Responsibilities may include:

  • Review artist applications, portfolios, and proposals.
  • Participate in artist presentations and interviews either in-person or virtually.
  • Participate in panel deliberations either in person or virtually.
  • Provide feedback and make recommendations to the Public Art Committee.
