Project Timeline

• Spring 2026: Advisory Panel Established
  Mayor Dyer convened the Mayor’s 2200 Parks Avenue Advisory Panel, representing a broad range of perspectives, to help guide the public engagement process and explore the future of 2200 Parks Avenue.

• June 25, 2026: Advisory Panel Kickoff Meeting
  The advisory panel held its first meeting to discuss the property’s future role in the community, identify key themes, and help shape the community engagement process.

• July 27, 2026: Community Listening Session from 6-8 p.m. at 2200 Parks Avenue, Virginia Beach
  Residents participated in an interactive, open-house event, sharing ideas and perspectives on the future of the property. The event was free and open to the public.

• Aug. 19, 2026: Advisory Panel Meeting
  The advisory panel reviewed community feedback from the listening session and continued its discussions

• Fall 2026: Advisory Panel Recommendations
  The Advisory Panel completed its work and developed six guiding principles for the future of 2200 Parks Avenue, informed by Panel discussions and community feedback.

• Next Steps
  On September 8, 2026, City Council received the Advisory Panel’s guiding principles and directed staff to move forward with a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the potential lease or sale of 2200 Parks Avenue. The RFP will incorporate the guiding principles developed through the Advisory Panel process, including preserving a strong arts and cultural identity, providing community benefit and public access, and supporting a financially sustainable operating model. The RFP is expected to be issued in Fall 2026. Updates will be posted on this webpage as the process moves forward.
